Robertson Winery ChardonnayRobertson Winery Chardonnay 2015

This South African Chardonnay is not what you expect as it sees no oak. It’s delightful with pear and citrus notes. A “wow” wine with an attractive price tag and great with shrimp, lobster or a delicious triple cream. Serve it to people who swear they don’t like Chardonnays and surprise them with their new favorite winter white.

OR

Robertson Winery Cabernet 2015

A solid South African Cab with classic berry flavors and light, velvety tannins. It has a rich Cabernet nose and flavors of licorice, cassis and dark chocolate. No need to set aside, you can enjoy it now with a hearty roast of beef or game. It’s an easy drinker, and the price is right. Always fun to see new wines from South Africa.

Azienda Agricola Pugliano Treggiaia Azienda Agricola Pugliano Treggiaia

This Small Vineyards find is a 90% Sangiovese, 5% Cannaiolo, 5% Malvasia blend from a small estate in Tuscany. The nose is dark and lush with aromas of baked plums and bittersweet chocolate. The palate is ripe and robust with blackberry and cherry notes and a pleasant cinnamon spice flavor.

While this Tuscan red is rich with hearty tannins, it has no hard edges and isn’t an oaky behemoth, but an easy drinking red. Perfect with pizza, wings, grilled Italian sausage and peppers and a relaxing evening without pretense.

Vignobles Brunier Ventoux Mégaphone Vignobles Brunier Ventoux Mégaphone from Kermit Lynch

This staff favorite is the younger sibling of the famed Brunier Châteauneuf-du-Pape “Vieux Télégraphe” wine, with a fantastic price point for its mature, velvety and smoky flavors. It’s an 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah blend whose name, Mégaphone, is a play on its pricier ($85) sibling named after a vintage telegraph line on the historic Brunier terroir. Mégaphone is a sophisticated wine without the price tag.

It’s ready to drink with rich black cherry, wild strawberry, wild rose, rosemary and juniper notes. It’s one of Deb’s, “favorite little wines, tasting like a baby Châteauneuf-du-Pape.” This wine is great with anything and would be ideal as a gift to hosts with the mandate: “Save this to savor later by yourselves.”
