Uncorked – Wine is good for you?

“Wine is the most healthful and most hygienic of beverages.”

~ Louis Pasteur

Uncorked is Livingston’s only wine bar, and we invite you to join us to enjoy the healthy benefits of the much-loved grape. A little research has turned up a list of benefits one can derive from moderate wine consumption, boosting heart health, prevention of some vision loss, help in avoiding cavities, reduction of certain kinds of cancer, and even reducing cardiometabolic risk in people with type 2 diabetes.

Centuries ago, wine was used treat various health conditions. Medieval monasteries were convinced that their monks lived longer than the rest of the population partly because of their moderate, regular consumption of wine. In recent years, science has indicated that this could be true.

Resveratrol (found in the skin of grapes) may protect the brain from stroke damage according to researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Regular consumption of most alcoholic drinks increases the risk of breast cancer. However, thanks to chemicals in the seeds and skins of red grapes, women who drink red wine in moderation may be spared this risk.

A team of researchers from Spain reported in 2013 that drinking wine may reduce the risk of depression. A study of data for around 5,500 men and women aged from 55 to 80 years over a seven-year period showed that those who drank between two and seven glasses of wine each week were less likely to receive a diagnosis of depression, even after taking lifestyle factors into consideration.

In addition to enjoying the wide selection of wines and beer at Uncorked, enjoy a meal when you visit. The kitchen is turning out delicious specials nightly, featuring thick sandwiches made with the freshest ingredients. Cooler weather will bring more soups and before you know it, it will be fondue time again!

“Give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out of doors by somebody I do not know.”

~ John Keats

The Lucky Valentines – New and Used Americana

the lucky valentines

The Lucky Valentines are Montana native songwriters Shaun and Jamie Carrier. Their music has been described by fans as “Fleetwood Mac meets Mandolin Orange in a Gypsy Junk Shop.” Married on February 14, 2010, they have been playing music for the whole of their life together. Crafting songs rooted in honest, raw emotion and blending sounds from alt-country, rock-n-roll, indie and folk, they span themes of joy and pain in the face of life’s trials. They borrow inspiration from their own experience, observation and the beautiful, lonesome landscape and history of north-central Montana. Their 2016 independent release Lion in the Garden is a collection of songs that explore betrayal, loss and joy.

Christy Hays – Desert Country

Christy Hays

“Like Lucinda Williams in a Carhartt jacket, Christy Hays works rugged metaphors into emotionally charged country folk.”

~ Austin Chronicle

Christy Hays’ music has folk and country tinges, thoughtfully penned stories and a full band sound that is both driving alt country and moody folk rock. Her new album River Swimmer was released in April of 2018 on Nine Mile Records. It brings the culmination of Christy’s influences and her experiences traveling the world. Hays has shared the stage with Hayes Carll, Sturgil Simpson, Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis and Jeffery Foucault to name a few. Bruce Robison cut her song “Lake of Fire” and released it on his newest album Bruce Robison and the Back Porch Band. She now spends portions of the summer in Montana, gigging in the Northwest, writing and returning to her beloved wilderness. Hays dreams of creating an artist retreat out of that house for people just like her who need to escape the city, disappear and create. Compared to Brandi Carlile, Lucinda Williams, Rhett Miller, Kathleen Edwards and Patty Griffin, Hays has a sound uniquely her own. christyhays.com
